Sierra: Mt. Rose Summit
In: Trail Notes
I did a hike to the top of Mt. Rose. It took me a 5 1/2 hours to get to the top and back. Mount Rose Summit is located in the Carson Range near Mount Rose and Slide Mountain northeast of Incline Village. Mt. Rose trail offers stunning views and a challenging option for those who want to peak it. The mountain rises 2,500 feet as you trek to the top with switchbacks near the summit. Elevation of Mt. Rose is at 10,785ft. A best time to hike the mountain is during summer seasons, but even in peak summer months, you’re likely to run into some snowpack. What I love about the hike are the stunning views of Lake Tahoe. Getting to the top can be strenuous, but it is worth it once you reach the summit. The Mt Rose hike is roughly 11 miles round trip, including 2,500 feet of total elevation gain. By maintaining a 2 mph pace and adding an extra 30 minutes for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain, you’ll hike for about 6.75 hours. That said, most people complete the Mt Rose hiking trail in 6 hours.
